Title: PMDX 126 test mode appears to not work - or I'm an idiot :)
Post by: Rusty Knuckles on February 19, 2020, 12:52:40 PM
Finally got all my parts about 2 months ago and have been slowly pecking away at mounting and wiring and have hit a snag.

I'm following the manual step by step and got to 2.6 which is the test section and it refers me to 5.4.

Prior to pressing the TEST button
Power LED - on
Outputs Enabled LED - on
all other LED's - off

Press and hold
Power LED - on
Outputs Enabled LED - off
Status LED - on
E-Stop LED - on
all other LED's - off

Release button
Power LED - on
Outputs Enabled LED - on
Status LED - off
E-Stop LED - off
RST LED - on for about 1 second and then off
all other LED's - off

On reading, I'm under the impression that the STEPS LED should flicker and I don't get that.  Undeterred, I hooked up one of the Gecko drivers to see what would happen and got nothing as well.

What am I doing wrong?
Should the E-stop LED come on in test mode and if not what could cause that?

The 3rd paragraph of section 5.4 says "The PMDX-126 asserts the E-Stop signal to the PC as long as it is in “Test” mode."  So, yes, EStop should be asserted.

I think what you have to do is set the DIP switches for the desired test mode, then press and release the test button to put the PMDX-126 into "test" mode.  THEN, press and hold the button to generate step pulses.  See if that works.
