Hi all,

Now got my machine up and running minus the ATC.  I have been swapping my tooling out manually .  I have been looking at the setup, basically there are a number of solenoids.  Thus, I believe I know the ladder diagram of the actual tool changeover steps but my issues are:-

1.  How do I go about connecting these solenoids upto the the PMDX-126?  The solenoids will obviously be outputs but there are also some inputs, prior to the next solenoid firing.
2.  How do I write a basic step/ladder program so I fire the write solenoids at the right time that Mach4 can understand.

Photo attached shows the solenoids on the left.

Hope my query makes some sense.

Hi all,

I havent been on the forum for a while, I stopped working on my CNC conversion but with all the spare time I have been reinvigorated.

Basically, I have a small CNC mill that I have been converting for using Mach4.  I have the machine running for the most part but have some queries I am hoping the brainy people can help with :)

Hardware/software:-
Boxford - vmc190
ESS Smoothstepper
PMDX-126
PMDX-107
Sprint 1220 speed controller
Mach 4

Settings are basically:-

PMDX-126
SW1
1 - closed
2 - closed
3 - closed
4 - closed
5 - closed
6 - closed
7 - open  (as I have PMDX-107 card installed)
8 - closed

I am not using either K1 or K2 relays at the moment.

PMDX-107
SW1
1 - off
2 - off
3 - on
4 - off
5 - off
6 - on

I have my motor controller connected to Fwd/Run, COM, Aref and obviously Aout and Agnd (0 - 10vdc).

I have all axis running, and my spindle runs (currently only one direction), however I have the following queries

1.  Is it best to use K1 relay for spindle?  If so how would I incorporate this with the 107 board?
2.  My spindle motor should run backwards.  What have I missed in setup to allow for this?
3. The spindle has a RS-306-061 opto isolator switch on it.  Can I connect this into my system?  I assume this would be back into PMDX-126 board.

Thanks for any help/direction on the above.

Hope all are keeping safe and giving youselves lots to tinker with :)

Hi all,

I have a PMDX-126 and ESS.  I have all the drives working but struggling to understand how I connect the spindle controller (Lenze 534), to the K1 relay.  Is there anyone that can point a newbie in the right direction?

I have (hopefully), attached a photo showing the spindle control board.

Hi all,

I have an ESS, currently I have it within a plastic box with a PP cable to my machine and the BoB within the machine.  But I am looking to upgrade my BoB (to PMDX-126).  If I plug the PMDX-126 straight into my SS then I maybe best mounting the SS and BoB within the machine housing.  Making both boards dedicated to the one machine.  Do I have an option to add the PMDX-126 to the same box as my SS with a PP cable running to the machine or will this limit the number of I/O etc?  My issue is I have a 2nd machine which I would also like to get up and running using the same system.  I dont really want to buy two SS's if I dont need to.

Any thoughts welcome on how others get round such problems.

Regards

Steve
