SmartBOB controllers and dedicated accessories / PMDX-424, constant PC connection required?

Hello,
Apologies for the basic question. I am looking to build my first CNC and was hoping to get some clarification on how the PMDX-424 functions.
Does the PC need to stay connected to the board while running G-code or can it be disconnected after the code has been loaded?
