Parallel Port breakout boards, motherboards, and dedicated accessories / Model PMDX-2PARPCI

Hello Everyone,
I am in the process of getting my Cnc router up and running. I purchased a PMDX-2PARPCI.I am using a G540 drive
and I am having trouble getting output 1 to work. I checked voltage at the parallel port and on pin 17 using mach3 I can obtain 5 volts when I press the spindle button or .100 volts when pressed again. It never goes to 0 volts. Is this normal or do I need to change the port mode to epp? IF so how?
