SmartBOB controllers and dedicated accessories / PMDX-411 and extension cables

I see a 6' USB extension cable is offered (cool).
Question: can a 4 foot long DB25 cable be used between the
PMDX-411 and the stepper driver? (or will this mess up signal timing?)
((machine specific stepper driver for a Sable 2015; checked pin outs for
both sides and they match for my purposes)).
