Setting up a new 4 axis mill using PMDX-126 and PMDX-107
« on: August 21, 2016, 04:34:10 AM »
HI. I have got most of the issues sorted but I cant seem to get the coolant pump working on K1. I have used the machine power app note to wire the machine and Estop and limits etc all work fine. I havent tried the stepper drives yet as I want to get everything sorted first but I am sure it will be all ok. I have K2 powering the contactor for the mains power to the drives and spindle and all of this works fine but for th e life of me I cant get K1 to switch using Mach3 and only 1 parallel port. I have not wired up the 107 to the spindle yet either just wanted to get the basics working first. After this I will get the drives going properly and the machine moving then the spindle. I have set both jumpers as per the app note for machine power. What output pin from Mach3 should I be using for K1

If you are not yet using your PMDX-107 then the application notes
about setting that up will not work for basic relay control.

For using the K1 relay you should have M3 assigned to an Output
signal such a Output 1, and then assign Output 1 to Port 1, Pin 1.

If this does not help in your situation, please send us a copy of
your XML file so we can see how you have things configured.

Hi  Steve

Thats what I have setup. I will get my XML file when I get home tonight and send you a copy of it. Output1 is set Port1 and Pin 1 is what I have assigned. On the Mach screen if I tick the high or low box when I click high the relay operates as I click on it in the mach setup screen. But I can not get it to work when I use the coolant switch on the mach screen. The K2 relay works fine for the machine power and Estops with the outputs enabled function driving K2.

Sorry I miss-read your question.

For flood coolant M8 is typically used and this should be set to use Output1.

Strange as it sounds, the setup for Coolant is on the Config > Ports&Pins > Spindle Setup
dialog page.

Also, make sure you do not have a macro for M8 set up in your macros folder. If
one does exist, it will override the Config setup.

I went into the setup in the spindle and saw where you were talking about. I have set the flood to output 1 but no matter what combination of jumper or dip switch I can not get the relay to operate. The led indication s going on and off at the other connector to show pin 1 activation is working.

I cant seem to get it to go. Can you look at the XML file I emailed to you Steve
Will connect up the drives tonight then work on getting the 107 for the spindle working

Hi Steve

I have all of my 3 main axis working fine also the spindle is working fine as well through the 107. The only thing left is this coolant pump relay issue for K1. I am doing this right arent I ?..or should I be putting in a separate relay for the coolant and drive it from J6 pin 1 output

I have attached the current xml file

Hi Steve

I have it all working now. I have no idea why it wouldn't work before but I have K1 jumper in the pin1 position and sw7 off and it now seems to work fine but I am sure I had tried that earlier. I have to say this is probably the easiest interface board I have used. The 107 makes life easy too for the VFD. Just have to get your head around some of the instructions. Got a bit more wiring to do for the 4th axis and the 48V supply for it. Put a few covers back onto the machine and I can start turning some chips out. The cabinet iand wiring tidy up isnt done of course but this is how its setup.

Great to hear that you have it working now.

I cannot guess what issue you were having but I can say the even I,
as long as I have been doing this stuff, sometimes cannot see the
forest for the trees.
