PMDX-424 with PMXD-407
« on: April 23, 2018, 12:34:52 AM »
Howdy All,

New to installing PMDX products, but happy with how well I managed to get all my axis working.

I do have a problem with the 407: It does not seem to respond to the Spindle On button in Mach4.

I am missing some pieces of information to help me fault find:

1) When I select the Spindle to "Fwd" on the Mach4 screen, should the LED on the 407 light up regardless of any VFD connection?
2) When I power up the board, should the same above mentioned LED flash twice and then stay extinguished?
3) How can I tell if Mach4 is sending the command to the 407?
4) In the attached picture, is that the proper configuration for the 424 with the 407?

...any other hint :)

Thanks very much for your help!

Have you commanded the spindle speed?  The PMDX-407 LED turns on when it sees the spindle speed PWM signal from the 424.  If speed is zero (which is is by default when you start mach4), then there is no PWM signal even though the spindle is "on".

Thank you for answering so quickly.

Yes, the speed was set to 0 and typing it into the field to the left of the spindle on button did not work (which is what I did previously). I had to use the MPI G-code input to set the spindle speed with the "S" command....and hey presto, it worked like magic.

Would be worth while to add this to the setup manual for the 407.

Have a great day!
