PMDX-126 wiring to AC Servo Drive (kollmorgen)
« on: April 20, 2015, 03:17:14 PM »
Hello, I have PMDX-126 and not finding good information online how to wire this to my AC servo drives.

I have an industrial CNC router that I am retrofitting to Mach3 controller. Just about have everything buttoned up and rewired regarding e-stop, homes, limits, enable, fault etc.. but I am not getting any motion.
Yes, the drives do work (they move in serial cable setup mode) and they are enabled when I have attempted.

This is a pinout of C8 (a serial connector on the top on drives) It is used when in GEARING MODE set to PULSE/DIRECTION.

PIN 1 - A+
PIN 2 - A-
PIN 3 - (DC common)
PIN 4 - B+
PIN 5 - B-
PIN 6 - (SHIELD)
PIN 7 - (reserved)
PIN 8 - I+
PIN 9 - I-

Servo Drive: SERVOSTAR S: SR03200-2G203B
Servo Motor: GOLDLINE: M-203-B-23

Picture attached is how I was told by a user on another website to connect to PMDX-126.   Tried, but nothing happened.

HELP!

Hello CNC Noob,

Assuming that your drives have RS-422 style differential inputs, your diagram looks reasonable.
The idea is to bias the negative inputs half way between +5V and Ground while the positive
inputs swing from +5 volts to Ground to present the signal. It might help to connect the DC common
from pin 3 of the C8 connector to the PCgnd on the PMDX-126. This would make sure that the
signals remain within the common mode range of the inputs.

In a quick search on the internet I could not find a manual for these drives. Can you provide an
electronic version or a link to one? I would like to see what other issues might come into play.

One possible thing that could be happening is that you have the Step signal going to the Direction
input and the Direction signal going to the Step input. This would result in only tiny motions each
time the Direction signal alternated from true to false.

I have since been advised on connection. (same as what you posted)
So I do have motion now.

Still going thru some hurdles as far as tuning the drives and getting the speed up.

Attached is the installation manual.
Yes, please advise if you forsee anything that may cause some trouble.

OK, the C8 connector inputs are differential RS-422 style as I suspected.

You should be good to go.
